Why so many managers are empty inside despite their success – and how holistic leadership opens up new paths
Many people today are looking for resilience coaching, burnout prevention or business coaching because they feel that the demands on managers are constantly increasing, while their own energy is limited.
But why are so many top performers exhausted despite their success? This question has accompanied me for decades – and led to my current method for more mental clarity, health and sustainable performance.
My path: From the world of finance to holistic leadership
As an investment banker and later in international finance, I thought for a long time that status, discipline and performance were the key to happiness.
Yoga? Unthinkable for me at the time. But after a few years on the yoga mat, it became clear:
Mental clarity and inner strength are not the result of even more effort, but of conscious self-observation and genuine regeneration.
The paradox of the modern working world: more pressure, less clarity
In my years as a banker, I saw brilliant minds make bad decisions under pressure. During my travels through India and the Far East, I repeatedly asked myself the key question for sustainable leadership:
“What makes me really happy and healthy?”
The answer was not the next career move, but the ability to manage energy intelligently – like in martial arts: not fighting against resistance, but using it to act with ease and presence.
The 4 pillars for resilient managers
Today, I combine the essence of Eastern wisdom teachings with scientific neuroscience in my resilience coaching for companies and individuals.
The Smiling Wisdom 4-pillar system combines:
– Mental & emotional clarity – for better decisions under pressure and more authenticity
– Movement, posture & structure – for physical presence, charisma and fewer stress symptoms
– Cell health & energy – for sustainable performance and burnout prevention
– Regeneration & sleep – for real recovery and long-term health
Why classic stress management techniques are not enough
What I see again and again: Managers function – but are rarely really with themselves. This inner separation is a major cause of mental exhaustion, declining decision-making quality and rising burnout figures.
True transformation requires a holistic system that integrates body, mind and emotions.
Results from practice:
– Better decisions under pressure
– Higher productivity
– Noticeably more energy and joie de vivre
– Less absenteeism through targeted burnout prevention
